This artist-led project and workshop series explores drawing as an action and process by inviting participants to contribute to a large scale 24 hours resolved artwork. Groups are guided through experimental drawing fundamentals and contribute to a large scale 25 metre artwork. On the completion of the project, the final artwork will be viewed then deconstructed/cut up at the opening event.

SESSIONS

SELF PORTRAIT AS REFLECTION
Participants examine emotive self portraiture development through blind contour, ambidexterity, and the use of “the gaze”. Participants produce a large scale self portrait focussing on line, tone, the gaze.

SELF PORTRAIT AS FIGURE
This session features a clothed life model. Participants explore the human figure and discuss how human representation in art impacts the viewer. Experimental drawing exercises including the exploration of negative space, scale, gesture and line contributing to the final figure work.

SELF PORTRAIT AS PERSONAL
Participants explore objects as symbols and reflect on ritual while practicing observational drawing techniques. Focus on negative space and line, while practicing experimental drawing methods around memory and improvisation. Participants are asked to bring a small personal object or photograph to work with.

SELF PORTRAIT AS FEELING
Participants explore experimental drawing methods which focus on active drawing,
pattern, line, shape and emotive mark making. Participants reflect on how the physical act of large scale drawing contributes to product. Impact of light and dark providing balance to the work, and the exploration of new media drive this session.

SELF PORTRAIT AS FEELING/PERSONAL
Experimental drawing practices guide the outcome of this final session. Participants explore experimental drawing methods which focus on active drawing, observation, pattern, line, shape and emotive mark making. Participants reflect on how the physical act of large scale drawing contributes to outcomes and may reflect on a personal object or totem for this session.
